Game day Cheer and showcase

Program Overview

The Ocean Township AYC program is a community-based cheerleading organization that provides young athletes with the opportunity to participate in cheerleading while fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills. The program focuses on building confidence, athleticism, and spirit.

Participants in the Ocean Township AYC program learn a variety of cheerleading skills, including stunts, tumbling, jumps, cheers, and routines. In addition to developing athletic ability, the program emphasizes sportsmanship, collaboration, and commitment, as cheerleaders support our AYF tackle football teams at games and events.

Age Divisions

The Cheer program is for players age 5-14. AYF ages are determined by the age you are on 7/1 of that year.

Program Focus & Development

Sideline Cheer emphasizes development, participation, and confidence-building. Athletes will learn:

  • Basic cheer motions and terminology
  • Age-appropriate chants and cheers
  • Sideline formations and game-day etiquette
  • Teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship

All routines and activities are designed to be non-competitive, focusing on learning and fun rather than performance rankings.

Coaches & Volunteers

Our Sideline Cheer teams are led by volunteer coaches who are committed to providing a positive and encouraging experience.

All coaches are required to:

  • Complete background checks
  • Follow AYF cheer guidelines and safety standards
  • Adhere to league codes of conduct

Parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer as cheer coaches or team helpers to support the program.

Practice & Game Schedule

  • Practices: Cheer teams practice on average 2-3 times per week.
  • Game Days: Games are typically played on Sundays. Each team will have about 8 games. Each team will participate in the Jersey Shore AYF competition in October.

Practices are held at the Kenny Pickett Filed located at 1100 West Park Ave. Home games are held at the Ocean Twp High School located at 550 West Park Ave.

Uniforms & Equipment

Required from Families:

  • Each Cheerleader is responsible to purchase their own uniform and pom-poms. Bulk orders for these items will be placed by June.
  • Cheer shoes or athletic shoes
  • Hair bow and practice attire
  • Weather-appropriate layers for game days.

Safety Guidelines

Athlete safety is a top priority. Sideline Cheer follows AYF safety standards:
